It’s past midnight and I’m watching Monk on USA. I’m exhausted. I can barely stand. It’s been a long day and I’m not sure I’ll be able to make sense. But here it goes…….
The day breaks and the prognostic is not good. My muscles are stiffer than a porn star on extra-strength Viagra. And I have to play Mozart today. Oy.
Drew’s post regarding ownership of a Symphony got me thinking. Those involved with a Symphony in any way be it managers, musicians, board members or audience members are in essence caretakers charged with delivering the orchestra to the next generation and beyond. Second full day in Charlotte and I wake up feeling like an old man. Between conducting, practicing, and the long bike ride yesterday this 43-year-old body is complaining. Nothing to do but do it all over again.
Whenever you hear or read about “Midwest tornadoes”, chances are they are talking about my neck of the woods. This past Monday a freakish line of storms passed right through Springfield and if you have never heard a tornado siren sound, trust me, when you are out when it does and your family is not with you, having to cancel a rehearsal is the furthest thing from your mind….
It has been an interesting day here in Charlotte so this will probably be a long post. Sit down and make yourself comfortable.
