Yes, it lives! Meaning me, of course. The last few weeks have been busy but now it’s D Day. Porgy & Bess is no longer abstract. It is here.
Tonight @ around 6 pm I shall say goodbye to my family and head into the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport. Next stop will be Paris (via Amsterdam). We will be rehearsing in Paris for 6 days, then everyone will move down to Lyon. The reason we shall be in Paris is that the Director and Set Designer work there, so it will be (theoretically) easier to start blocking there. We shall see.
I have decided that the next few weeks will be recorded via video. I recently purchased a Flip Ultra recorder, extremely basic and very handy. So the next several weeks of posts will be video postings. Please let me know if they are enjoyable or just flat lame.
It’s going to be an extremely exciting time, and also a very interesting one. I am dealing with a French Opera Company (more about that later) and I suspect the best way to approach the experience is with a very open mind. Rolling with the punches will be a necessity, and I’m sure I’ll have to employ the old “rope-a-dope” on a regular basis. All will be documented and much reported.
