Authenticity

So watching the giant infomercials i.e the DNC and RNC conventions, I’m looking for any signs of authenticity, something real and inspiring, not so much who to vote for but who to hope for.  With the RNC I sat squirming and surprisingly I found myself being bothered by something even more than the rhetoric….

For the video tributes at the RNC I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, loud and 100% synthesized music that sounded like it was created before sampling was invented!  There are keyboards at Kmart that have sounds that sound more like real instruments than whatever was used.  It makes me wonder, are they trying to fool us?  It wasn’t even the words,  I thought, millions of dollars are spent on these things and they couldn’t hire more than one musician….and the one that they did hire owns a Casio!

I thought to be fair, I listened to videos from the DNC, and sure enough, real musicians, subtle soundtracks and balanced beautifully.

There is no political point here because the candidates probably had nothing to do with the actual production of their tributes, but it makes me wonder about the appearance of authenticity.   You only have to watch the 1st 30 seconds of each below to see (hear) for yourself.  Now I wonder if those streamers at Invesco field were made with synthetic fibers?…..
