The National Association of Broadcasters is encouraging stations to use the power of their airwaves to help with the Haitian relief efforts, but if you are a public station be warned that you can’t just do on-air fundraising without FCC approval.
WQXR Tops the Charts
For all the grumbling in New York City about the new WQXR, the news is pretty fabulous. The station ranked No. 1 of ALL public radio stations in the December Arbitron listings. And people say that classical music on the radio is dying. hah!
Redefining Intimacy
Dear all of you,
Most New Year’s resolutions involve weight loss so this is not meant to offend. When I think of all of me, a resolution or least some resolve to lose a little weight may be in order for this blogger. Not a lot, just enough to make my new jeans more comfortable. Now, back to you, I mean, all of you.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, “of” is a preposition used as a function word to indicate the component material, parts, or elements or the contents <throne of gold> <cup of water> <all of you>. When someone attempts to greet you in the globally inclusive way, all of you, I doubt they are referring to the component material or parts of your corporeal presence. They are just ignorant or being lazy.
AMPPR in NYC, and Some Bits of News
Great news from David Duff, President of the Association of Music Personnel in Public Radio:
This year’s MPC will be in New York City, in the Greene Performance Space at WNYC/WQXR. Dates for the conference will be April 21-23, 2010.
We’ll be reducing the registration fee this year to assist stations affected by the economy (aren’t we all?). Exact amount will be set soon.
Conference hotel will be the Four Points Soho, with a nightly rate of $179.
We will keep you posted as the agenda develops.
