From Tom Taylor NOW:
Student-run WVKC, Galesburg, Illinois (90.7) shifts to NPR-based news/talk and classical, in a deal between Knox College and the regional Tri-States Public Radio. The student-produced variety programming will be diverted to an HD2 channel and online, as of mid-September. In fact, the Galesburg Register-Mail says that Western Illinois University-based Tri-States Public Radio will buy and install the HD Radio and webcasting gear. It appears that Tri-States is already simulcasting its programming on Class A WVKC during the “Morning Edition” hours of 5-9am, but soon it will occupy all 24 hours of the day, in a deal that relieves Knox College of the previous operating expenses. (There had been fears of a total shutdown of the station.) Western Illinois U.’s regional operation is based at news/classical WIUM, Macomb (91.3), whose content is also carried on WIUW, Warsaw at 89.5.
Hmmm. I wonder why they made the switch in August, while all the students are away???
