Spring Thoughts

For the record, I do not get paid to write this blog.  The guy who runs this website is way too cheap for that.  So occasionally I have to concentrate on my real job for a while.  That does not mean I haven’t been thinking…

************

I’ve got $50 that says Spider-Man: Turn Off The Night opens on Broadway before the Detroit Symphony Orchestra plays a paying concert.  Any takers?

************

I do not understand why the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport thinks that cranking early 19th Century woodwind music will somehow improve my travel experience.

************

Frank Zappa was a genius.

************

Friends from Boston have written to me with sadness about Levine’s resignation from the BSO.  They all saw it coming but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt.  Unfortunately, it was doomed from the start.

************

Would someone please ask Anne Midgette to stop writing about classical music?  Our situation is hard enough as it is.

************

I hope that Bob Spano has an infinite cache of patience.  He’s going to need it.

************

There is hope in Honolulu.  Let us all pray that this new group is committed, enlightened, and dedicated to music.

************

The management of the DSO seems incapable of understanding how modern media functions.

************

Ben Vereen is an old school, class act.

************

Here’s my early vote for the 2011 Pulitzer Prize in music.

************

There’s some guy claiming that he can program an orchestral season by formula.  Yup, he’s rated pieces by their popularity index and then throws them together to make concerts.  Frankly, I’m appalled.

************

I need to practice the piano more.
