And the Beat goes on…….

It’s Sunday, a free day for the cast and crew of Porgy. But for 50,000 intrepid souls, and however many watching, it was the day of the Paris Marathon!

When I lived in L.A. I would go see that marathon every year. Now that I live in the Twin Cities if I’m in town I check out that marathon. Last year’s was a special one because my lovely wife ran her very first one, in a blistering time of 4:23. Viva Jen!!

What was most fun about the Paris Marathon was that there was music everywhere. Bands on every street corner, mainly brass ensembles playing everything from jazz to proto-funk. But the highlight for me was this fabulous Brazilian samba-raggae drum corp named Muleketu. Img_0006 They were obviously having an absolute blast of a time, and for the record there is nothing sexier than watching folk of all shapes, sizes, sub-species, etc., drumming and dancing their way into ecstasy. They were bringing da noise and gettin’ da funk!

I am now inspired to tackle more Porgy. The question for today is: what cuts should we put back in to make the story work better? It’s going to be an interesting argumment with myself.
