Wowie! Young People Starting a New Classical Station

This is the best, happiest, most smile-inducing  story I have heard in a long time.  The Deseret News of Southern Utah reports that Dixie State College is launching a new classical music station — KXDS — to be run by students.  Program Director and Radio Professor Paul Bulkley sees the station as a career development opportunity for students.  He plans to train them to voice track, do production, and work as announcers on the station.   At the same time he wants the music to serve the community.  17% of the community is 55 or older.

Bulkley also sees radio experience as a plus for the Dixie State College Music Department which has just expanded its music program to offer four-year degrees.

We hope it will attract students in the Music Department…  They know that a classical station will go a lot will go a lot further on their resumes and cover letters.

The station goes on the air in 30 to 60 days and will be streaming once they’re up and running.  They are looking for underwriters.

Bravo, KXDS and Professor Bulkley.  You have our full support!

And another first: today (Wednesday, Apr. 15th) is the launch in Carnegie Hall of the YouTube Symphony.  Stay tuned for audio!
