Colorado Public Radio

Classical Program Director The Classical Program Director is responsible for the overall sound and direction of Colorado Public Radio’s classical music service and for directing on-air staff in presentation and other content, on- air and online. Responsible for developing and maintaining CPR Classical as the primary classical music organization in Colorado.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Set, oversee and lead implementation of the Classical service on-air and on the CPR website and social media platforms, including music profile and  selection, announcer content, approach and style, integration of national  programs as appropriate, and Colorado classical music performances and  broadcasts.

• Direct, supervise, coach and support all Classical announcers to build each individual’s presence and personality on-air and in the community.

• Host a daily show, either live or pre-recorded.

• Supervise and work with the music director and Classical staff in all aspects of music selection and presentation, with particular attention to assisting in the completion of the ongoing database reorganization project.

• Oversee classical music recordings and live broadcasts.

• Collaborate with CPR staff on all educational outreach activities, including the annual instrument drive and other opportunities with arts and cultural organizations.

• Work with CPR staff to produce and participate in all on-air fundraising activities and off-air events.

Non-standard working hours are guaranteed. On call 24/7, and accountable for establishing backup on-call staff when on leave or unavailable.

Knowledge and competencies include: music programming skills, in-depth knowledge of and experience with radio music formats. Classical music experience required. Hosting and music programming experience required. Experience with MusicMaster music scheduling system software (or similar software) and NexGen automation system (or similar software) a must. Excellent management and communications skills and experience. Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with a wide range of skilled and creative people. Must have strong organizational skills.

Program Director, New Hampshire Public Radio, Concord, NH

New Hampshire Public Radio seeks a Program Director.

Responsibility and Objective:

The Program Director is responsible for the management of NHPR’s Programming Department; direct reports include the Operations Manager, Promotions Manager, On Air Hosts and the Senior Producers of NHPR’s locally produced shows, The Exchange, Word of Mouth and The Folk Show. The Program Director also oversees Classical NH. Responsibilities include management of the program schedule and programming elements; audience research and analysis; the relationships with the national networks, distributors and independent producers; and supervise the production of on-air fund drives. The Program Director manages the station’s Community Advisory Board. This position works closely with the President/CEO, News Director and the VP for Development to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization, and works with Human Resources to recruit, develop and retain the best possible staff.
