New PD at WGBH

From WGBH in Boston:

Ben Roe is joining the WGBH Radio management team as Managing Director for Classical Services… Ben is well known and highly regarded in the public broadcasting and music communities. He comes to us from Charlotte, North Carolina classical station WDAV-FM, where he served as General Manager, overseeing all aspects of programming and operations, including producing national classical programs.

Ben has worked within the NPR system for 20 years in various classical music and news capacities, working with many stations and with world-class musicians. He has garnered numerous honors, including the National Medal of the Arts, a Grammy, and a Peabody and has produced award-winning classical and folk CDs.

Ben is no stranger to Boston. He was here in the ’80s, earning a graduate degree in Broadcast Administration from Boston University, followed by stints at WBUR, WUMB, and other New England stations.

He will officially join WGBH Tuesday, March 1.

She also produces a radio series called "America's Music Festivals," which presents live music from some of the country's most dynamic festivals. She is a former Fulbright scholar and co-author of a catalogue of Handel's autograph manuscripts.

    Congratulations, Ben. NPR’s national music programming was outstanding during your tenure, before the Kroc grant and post-9/11 Talk mania sucked the soul out of the network…
