There’s an interesting argument against classical music radio here today. Reacting to the reactions of Sacramento listeners at the loss of some classical programming, classical music blogger Greg Sandow writes about the reasons classical radio listeners shouldn’t be upset when stations cut back on or cut out classical music on their stations. And why do these stations cut back? Because people aren’t listening. The Sacramento Business Journal reports that Classical Public Radio in Sacramento is moving its jazz off of the dual format station KXJZ (JZ, get it?). Why, you ask? Here’s why: The changes will allow Capital Public Radio to repeat news and information shows that air during the day in the evening, and free up airtime to provide additional news and information programs. Repeats of talk shows??? They are moving jazz over to the classical music station 88.9 KXPR, displacing some of the classical programming.
