Full-Time Classical Coming in Wilmington?

Our friend Cleve Callison at WHQR in Wilmington was interviewed in the Greater Wilmington Business Journal about the station’s potential good news:

WHQR-FM is in talks to buy a second radio station in the market, station manager Cleve Callison said Tuesday during a fundraising event.

If the deal goes through, the second station would be an all-classical music format, allowing the existing public radio station at 91.3 FM to expand its offerings of news and information shows, Callison said.

…Callison said station officials were in talks with an unnamed company about the acquisition. He said the purchase price also was under negotiation.

“We do have an agreement in principle,” he said. “I’m hoping in the next six months or so we’ll be able to flip the [on-air] switch.”

We’re all keeping fingers crossed for Wilmington.
