There is one thing that comes in handy when you travel for a living – I have great travel Karma. Usually……
On The Go
Connections
The show that got me hooked on cable TV was called “Connections.” This madman historian, James Burke, produced this fabulous show on science and history that was absolutely riveting. His premise was that history does not proceed in a straight line. So he would talk about one invention and then somehow connect it to something that you wouldn’t believe had any relation to it. It’s hard to describe, but it’s still one of the best shows ever.
Atlantic Sounds
I spent more time in the great country of Canada last week. I am particularly envious of them right now, for their Prime Minister called an election some 4 weeks ago and, lo and behold, it will be done on Tuesday. 37 days for an election, as opposed to the nearly immoral 2 freakin’ years it has taken us in the States. But that’s not really relevant here. Instead of heading towards the oil flats of Alberta I found myself wallowing in the salty waters of the Atlantic. It was my first trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I hope it doesn’t turn out to be my last.
What’s black and steel and costs a bundle?
I took a little trip last week, my first one in three months. The air was getting a little noxious here in the Twin Cities, what with the flag-waving, Liberal-denouncing, Bible-thumping, Tax cuts for the rich espousing, quadrennial waves of self-congratulatory apoplexy that was coming out of the Xcel Center. It was either get arrested or go do something else interesting. The next thing I knew I was landing at LaGuardia.
Reality, and other misconceptions
There’s a new reality show in the UK. Usually this would be an excuse to hit the Trader Vic’s (4th edition) and work on a new cocktail, but this one is different. Or worse. The name says it all – Maestro. This naturally has got me thinking about how far this could be taken (insert suitable dream music here………………………………..)
There’s a hole in my bucket….
It’s been a whirlwind trip to London and we packed a lot in. On the second day I met up with an old friend and colleague that thanks to this blog I was able to reconnect with. He asked me a question that put into sharp focus that there might be an end game to think about when it comes to a career, and that is:
What is my repertoire “bucket list”?…..
Another dozen Chicken Wings please……
Man, it’s been a rough month for famous folks from my great home town of Buffalo, N.Y. First Tim Russert unexpectedly leaves us. Now this very morning we hear of the passing of Leonard Pennario. Time to fire up the deep-fryer in their honor and wrastle up a batch of suicide wings.
All bets are On!
So instead of attending the conference in Denver I went to Vegas! My two brothers (who live in different countries) for my 40th birthday paid for my trip and met me there. A billboard at the airport surprised me big time!…
