The title of this post is snark, in case you don’t know me! There’s been an interesting discussion going on at the AMPPR Listserv about KPAC in San Antonio dumping its five local announcers in favor of C-24 (also live announcers) and diverting their salaries to the news division. San Antonio Lays Off On-Air Staff

Classical station KPAC , 88.3 in San Antonio has laid off its entire on-air staff, including our good friends Randy Anderson, John Clare, James Baker, and Ron Moore, and plans to run Classical 24.  Deirdre  Saravia was also cut from full-time on-air, but has accepted a part-time post. NY Expands; NM Contracts

Westchester County residents will be able to get WQXR again. From the NY Times (by Elizabeth Jensen): Over-the-air broadcasts of the classical music radio station WQXR are being restored for some Westchester County residents. The station’s parent company, New York Public Radio, on Monday bought the small Ossining radio station WDFH-FM, at 90.3. WKSU Bumps Daytime Classical

WKSU, Cleveland’s dual-format station based in Kent, Ohio has decided to fill up the daytimes with talkety-talk and bump classical to the evenings and overnights.  I always love the euphemisms when stations make these changes: The Kent-based public radio station still will emphasize classical music, but that emphasis will shift totally to 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. From 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, the station will focus on  news.
