Angst Over Classical in Nashville

We reported back in June 2011 about Nashville Public Radio taking over Vanderbilt University station WRVU and making it classical. They changed the call letters to WFCL and almost immediately began to operate the new format under an LMA.  Now the former friends of WRVU are filing a petition to deny WFCL renewal of the license. WITF in Harrisburg – Update

We told you about the switch from classical to news/talk in Harrisburg PA on WITF a while back.  Well, the change happened this morning.  A few interesting observations from the Pennlive.com blog post today: 1. The rationale for changing formats was that there were twice as many news listeners as classical listeners. WWNO in New Orleans Dumps Daytime Classical

Dual-format station WWNO in New Orleans is going all news/talk during weekdays, according to Dave Walker at the Times-Picayune, though the overnights will remain classical.  The change is scheduled to happen July 23rd.  Note the spin: Now carrying a combination of Classical music and news-and-talk, WWNO-2 – available over the air via digital radio and streaming at WWNO.org and on the station’s smart-phone app – will become a full-time home for Classical music, some programmed by WWNO personality Farrar Hudkins.
