All those cellists, but it was really fun. I hadn&#8217;t played with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lynnharrell.com\/category\/blog\/\">Lynn Harrell<\/a> much except as a soloist, so that concert was really special. You can read about it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expressmilwaukee.com\/article-8456-frankly-musicrss-knockout-performance.html\">here.<\/a> And <a href=\"http:\/\/thirdcoastdigest.com\/2009\/10\/review-frankly-musics-glazounov-and-brahms\/\">here.<\/a> Lots of other stuff happening&#8230;<!--more-->The Milwaukee Symphony continues did some of its best playing ever at last weekend&#8217;s concerts, which also happened to be one of the most compelling productions I&#8217;ve ever taken part in, artistically and otherwise. <em>Bluebeard<\/em> is already an amazing work, in this case perfectly enhanced with sculptures by the noted glass artist Dale Chihuly. There&#8217;s a review <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/entertainment\/arts\/67950972.html\">here.<\/a> and you can see pictures of the glass installations <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jsonline.com\/entertainment\/arts\/66475452.html\">here.<\/a> Who would&#8217;ve predicted two sellout crowds on Halloween weekend for an opera by Bartok?<\/p>\n<p>Crazy violin price check: $10 million for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/10\/22\/arts\/music\/22violin.html?_r=1\">this one.<\/a> And rumor has it that was only <em>half<\/em> the deal, and there was a Strad sold as well for roughly the same price. Lots of Russians in the market now-\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/lifestyleMolt\/idUSTRE59T43520091031\">here&#8217;s <\/a> another one. And how come there are all these del Gesus called &#8220;Vieuxtemps&#8221;? What about <a href=\"http:\/\/chicagoclassicalreview.com\/2009\/10\/cso-opens-subscription-concerts-with-a-maestro-switch-joshua-bell-in-two-works-and-a-debut-by-a-268-year-old\/\">this one?<\/a> If it&#8217;s $18 million I wonder if it sounds almost twice as good as the &#8220;Kochanski&#8221; for only $10 mil.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.cleveland.com\/metro\/2009\/11\/cleveland_man_faces_decades_pr.html\">This guy<\/a> wasn&#8217;t very good at stealing either a violin or an ATM. I love how he was selling the violin next to a snowblower.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weirdasianews.com\/2009\/07\/07\/artist-chopsticks-demonstrate-waste\/\">Here&#8217;s <\/a>someone who&#8217;s really into chopsticks.<\/p>\n<p>My alma mater continues to add to it&#8217;s incredible <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/11\/03\/arts\/music\/03manuscript.html?_r=1&amp;ref=arts\">manuscript<\/a> collection, thanks to Bruce Kovner.
