Today is a rehearsal and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mso.org\/main.taf?p=1,1,1,3&amp;PerfNo=9427\">concert<\/a> with Yo Yo Ma, who&#8217;s always incredible to work with. That&#8217;s just the beginning of an interesting week&#8230;<!--more-->On Friday and Saturday I&#8217;ll be playing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mso.org\/main.taf?erube_fh=tessitura&amp;tessitura.submit.CalendarPerfLink=1&amp;PerfNo=9128\">Brahms Double Concerto<\/a> with our terrific principal Joseph Johnson and our eminent (new) Music Director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrisonparrott.com\/artists\/Edo_de_Waart.asp\">Edo de Waart<\/a>. Then next\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.frankalmond.com\/franklymusic\/wislutheran2010.html\">Monday<\/a> lots of chamber music on my own series with a stellar group including legendary cellist (and now blogger) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lynnharrell.com\/\">Lynn Harrell<\/a>. On top of all that, I just found out something really amazing about the extraordinary\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.frankalmond.com\/?page_id=9\">violin<\/a> I&#8217;m currently playing on which also relates to my upcoming week. It turns out that from about 1873 to 1897 this violin was played by a man named Engelbert Roentgen, who was the Concertmaster of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gewandhaus.de\/gwh.site,postext,welcome.html?PHPSESSID=b51221eb57cf5551b6083188521b3b78&amp;PHPSESSID=b51221eb57cf5551b6083188521b3b78\">Gewandhaus Orchestra<\/a> in Leipzig during that period. After doing the math and a bit of research, it seems that almost without a doubt Mr. Roentgen was playing this very instrument as Concertmaster when the Brahms Double was premiered in Leipzig (Brahms conducting) on January 1, 1888. Joachim would&#8217;ve been a few feet away with <em>his<\/em> 1715 Strad, along with the cellist Hausmann.
